A 1760s Connecticut Farmhouse Airbnb

This centuries old farmhouse was renovated and styled as an Airbnb, balancing the comfort guests expect with the warmth and character that make an old New England home unforgettable. Once dominated by brown and black finishes, the interior was lightened throughout while its original materials and historic details were brought back into focus.

The project

Preserving the story of the home.

Original beams, wide plank painted floors and irregular old walls set the direction. Warm whites, muted greens, weathered wood, vintage rugs and collected furnishings bring the rooms together without erasing the history that gives the house its soul.

A thoughtful renovation rooted in what was already there.

Kitchen

The original cabinetry was retained and painted in a muted green, while the dark painted floor and black trim were lightened to change the feeling of the entire room. An antique stove took the place of the refrigerator, a farmhouse sink and patterned backsplash added character, and a custom wood island brought warmth and function to the center of the kitchen.

Living room

A false X shaped beam had been added to conceal plumbing and made the room feel heavy. It was removed along with the sheet rock, revealing the original hand hewn ceiling beams that now define the finished living room. Light trim, painted floors and quieter furnishings allow the historic structure to take the lead.

Sitting room

The sitting room began with black floors and trim that absorbed much of the natural light. A soft white palette, a vintage rug and collected furnishings transformed it into a bright and welcoming place for guests to settle in.

Primary bedroom

The former upstairs bathroom was relocated to another room so this space could become the primary bedroom. Vaulting the ceiling revealed a more generous sense of height, while warm white surfaces, light floors and an antique inspired chandelier created a calm retreat beneath the roofline.
